Senior Infants

A Special Visitor

In Aistear this month our topic is 'At the Hairdresser' and on Tuesday we had a very special visitor. Lucy's mum Trish came in to show us her hairdressing equipment and explain to us how to use it. She also let us in on a few hair styling secrets and now the girls are ready to work in their very own hair salon in our new Aistear Room.

Here they are listening intently to Trish and learning some new skills.

A huge THANK YOU to the family of May Dempsey for donating these beautiful Buddy Benches for our school yard in her memory.

Caoimhe Dempsey, May's grand-daughter, is in Senior Infants. As you can see, they are a huge hit already.

This month we have been learning all about the Antarctica. Check out the photos of the girls playing in the construction area, sand area, small world, playdough area, junk art area and doing role-play in our home-made Antarctica. They helped build it and it looks great! In the small world area they created a mini Antarctica by constructing icebergs and making some polar animals.

Have a look in the photo gallery on the right!

Where is Elfie (Ms. Clarke)?

Ms. Clarke was feeling very festive today and dressed up as an elf. Can you spot her in the school photo?

Our class took part in the MIGHTY MOUTH Dental Programme.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Certificate Presentation today. We were delighted to see you!

We learned all about how to look after our teeth, what food is good for our teeth and what food is bad. We learned about how SUGAR affects our teeth.

We also got new toothbrushes and toothpaste and we learned the correct way to brush our teeth.

How to brush your teeth:

Spend about 3 minutes brushing your teeth.

1. Start with the outside of your top teeth.

2. Then brush the outside of your bottom teeth.

3. Next brush the inside of your top teeth.

4. After that brush the inside of your bottom teeth.

5. Next brush the top of all the molar teeth.

6. Finally brush your tongue.

Today was our Open Day

We loved it when everyone came to visit.

Take a look at some of the photos from today.

We had so much fun performing our poem "Mother Doesn't Want a Dog" by Judith Viorst.

Mother doesn’t want a dog.

Mother says they smell,

And never sit when you say sit,

Or even when you yell.

And when you come home late at night

And there is ice and snow,

You have to go back out because

The dumb dog has to go.

Mother doesn’t want a dog.

Mother says they shed,

And always let the strangers in

And bark at friends instead,

And do disgraceful things on rugs,

And track mud on the floor,

And flop upon your bed at night

And snore their doggy snore.

Mother doesn’t want a dog.

She’s making a mistake.

Because, more than a dog, I think

She will not want this snake.

We had great fun working at our stations in our classroom after the performance. Lots of mums, dads, auntys, uncles, nannas and grandads came to visit us.

THANK YOU FOR VISITING!
